Today, I Long for Colour [365]

This morning, I woke up with a strange longing for colourful things. I guess winter and its darkness are finally getting to me. And then I remembered that wonderful picture I took towards the end of last October. And I had to do search for it in my flickr-stream.

There it is and looking at it, I can still feel the warm autumn sun of that day. Warm more in an emotional than physical way.

I can’t wait till we finally finish arranging the flat, unpacking everything and then, I can go into decorating, colorful yet soft decorating. I guess it will coincide with spring, how perfect!

The picture is a SOOC and I can see myself do a lot with it (if only the day had like 30 hours^^). Yesterday evening, I finished my boy’s birthday card and I like what I created with photoshop. It is the second card I did myself and I really enjoy the creative process, the picking of pictures, arranging them, adding decor elements and matching the colours.

I hope to one soon with nature elements so I can show it to you.

Have a nice, warm, colorful day!

Quick Linky

I stumbled upon a new blog that is about to launch big, I guess. It will be – surprise, surprise – about photography, tutorial style. I expect to learn a lot from it.

I love the pictures both of the writers, Rachel Devine and Peta Mazey, are taking. To be as great photographers as they are… That’d be fantastic!

Their blog runs by the subtitle: “how to take that fancy camera off auto & photograph kids like the pros”.
If that isn’t promising, I don’t know what is.

Anyways, they are having a give-away of an action-set which just looks great Рand I wanted to share the link with you anyways, so here you go:  Beyond Snapshots

Take a look!

Woah, Tagged!

Gnihihihi, if you could see me right now, beaming, jumping up and down (at least mentally ;)) in front of my PC. Why? Because I have been tagged by Marylin at A Little Space for Me. Which happens to be the very first time that I have been tagged ever. Yay!

So now, I have to give you my favourite picture of December/January. Of course, my fav is a picture of my boy. But. I’m hesitant to post portraits of him in the internets. Don’t get me wrong, I love the internet. But how can I be sure that he will too?

On the other hand, I’d love love love to share him with you… Anyways, before I get philosophical and go on and on about Ifs, Whens, and Whys, I give you a picture which happens to be a SOOC. And in the not-showing-my-babyN’s-face-fully-category, it is my winner for December.

Hope you like it too. =)

I am not going to tag anyone else, but will leave this to be picked up by anyone who feels like doing so.

Reaching Out. [365]

My boy can’t walk yet, but he can lift himself up on almost everything lately.

So, as you can probably guess, nothing’s save these days. I try to let him explore as freely as possible.

When in the living room, he quite often uses his high chair as an aid to stand up and he just LOVES to push it around walking behind it. Some days ago, he realized that he can also reach into it through the leg openings and he had a blast looking and reaching through it.

I managed to get a lot of fun pictures of these 20 minutes or so. Most of them are out of focus as he is moving so much and fast and always trying to touch the camera.

There is something about this picture that I like a lot. I can’t yet say what exactly it is. And I think I am not done with it yet. I guess I’d love to add a texture and maybe get rid again of the way too dark vignette.

The interesting part is: I have never ever before added a texture, so I guess this will be quite an adventure. I will need time to look into it and I really hope that I can free some for it during this week. Let’s see.

Monkey Baby [365]

Here’s the first entry to my “365-project” which actually won’t be a true 365er.

I figured I don’t want the pressure behind it. I love photography and I also like getting deeper into post-editing, but I don’t have a lot of free time at the moment – when I find the time I am spending it on photography anyways.

Nevertheless, I will TRY to do as many pictures under the flag of “365”. Plus, I will try to post them. Let’s see how far I’ll get.

Also, the picture isn’t necessarily taken on the day I am posting it. But the post-processing will be. So will my thinking about it.

This picture was taken on December 26th while I spent the day with my dearest family members at a zoo-like park in my hometown. I loved the monkeys and tried to get some good shots, unfortunately I couldn’t get really close nor into the right ankle because there was a crowd of small children right in front of where the action was going on.

Somehow I didn’t feel like pushing a child away just to get a shot. ūüėČ

I’d have loved to spend the rest of the day there, patiently waiting for my turn but – as always – my own baby boy was scared to hell by the monkey’s shrieking, so I had to hurry and move on.

There are about two or three pictures I really like, but there’s always some cage in it (as I said before, I couldn’t change my position). So I tried to do some harsh cropping, ending up with results I don’t like as much as the original. But I still prefer having them without two strings of cage each right in the¬† monkey.

So. Now that Christmas is over – we returned home from our trip to the relatives some hours ago – it is already time to fast forward for New Year’s Eve.

I definitely love the thought of starting a brand new year soon, and I totally like the number, 2010, for no specific reason. It just feels good.

2009 was a year totally dominated by the birth of our first child right from the beginning on (only three more weeks till his first birthday! feels sooo unreal!). It brought a lot of change not only into our small family, just the three of us, but also to our surrounding families: My mom became a grandmother for the very first time and in DH’s family the youngest member is already 15 years old…

Of course I changed, I am still growing with my son, but yet again, I feel very much myself, perhaps even the more because I really feel like being a mom is truly what I was meant to be.

I am curious to learn what 2010 will held for us. I can’t wait to see my boy growing further. I can’t wait to live a whole year in this amazing new flat. It feels so fitting that we closed the life changing year of 2009 with this move.

I will turn 30 in 2010. Wow. Perhaps I will get pregnant again at some point during the year? I see myself working in the garden. I see myself being creative.

Here are some New Year’s resolutions that have been on my mind lately:

1. I want to have the flat in a clean state at all times. “Clean” meaning that I feel comfortable and can have guests at any point of time without either feeling embarrassed or having to do a tremendous amount of work to do before someone arrives.

I have been “practising” for the last weeks, ever since we moved here, and already like what I am seeing. It means me cleaning up extra in the evening a bit, but it’s not that much of an effort and so worth it.

2. Have a garden with flowers and vegetables. I love gardening. But I tend to be lazy. I want to harvest ūüėČ my own fruits.

3. Get in shape. Lose these extra kilos. Stop eating chocolate. I am serious. I cannot abandon sweets altogether in one rush, but I can stop eating everything.

–> I will be allowed to eat desert and cake I made myself from scratch. I will not be allowed to just rip open a box of chocolate and consume it without consciously enjoying it. Especially not in front of the PC. -.-

4. Work out. May it only be 5 minutes a day. But work out! I’d love to get back to jogging.

5. Be creative! Photography, painting, crafting, writing. I will take the time at least once a week to do it. I will make up my mind for a photography project during the next days, probably something like a 365-thingy.

6. Read. Books. Novels. Newspaper. Think. About. What. I. Am. Reading. I will pick an author who will accompany me during the following year in the next days. It can be an author I have read before. It may be one I have never ever read a word before.

Things To Do in/for the Bedroom

– clean all the wooden stuff (roller shutter casing, baseboards, ceiling!)

– clean the window to the left from the outside –> all windows in the BR done thereafter

– clean the window frames (they are badly in need)

– make some room for my underwear and socks, either in the closet or the drawer. (Keeping them in the boy’s room’s definitely not an option. Madness resulting from frantically moving closets from one room to the other. But how? And where to put the table cloths?)

– thinking about moving the laundry basket back to the BR. takes up a whole lot of space in the bathroom, which is sort of crowded at the moment. also, it sucks to have dirty laundry lying around first thing in the morning because s o m e o n e is too lazy to carry it to the bathroom in the evening.

* chose 12 pictures of family and loved objects to frame

* get those 12 pictures printed

* get frames

* get all excited about the free space on top of the drawer

The Bedroom is my favourite room so far. Why? Because:

1. It has the most spectacular view over the city.

2. It is the most done and finished at the moment.

3. All three of us sleep in there, yet it still looks and feels roomy and spacey.

4. White curtains, white drawer. My dream is a BR all in white with different cloths/accessories to go with the season: lime green, red, pink,¬† blue…
